I’ve been cruising the Center for Responsible Nanotechnology, and it’s some exciting & scary stuff! The nanotech people are estimating that it will take only between 15-20 years to develop what’s called a fabricator, which is basically a little nano-bot that can create things (including replicating/creating itself) on the atomic/molecular level. You can imagine the Benefits and Risks that are involved with this sort of technology.
