Trip to Asia: Suweet!

I decided I’d finally mention a trip that Emily & I have been planning. It’s a post-graduation trip that will take place at the end of 2006 / beginning of 2007. We’ve been saving up for this trip and discussing it for well over a year now, and as of right this moment it looks like our trip will be primarily to Southeast Asia (and specifically Thailand). The reason I say “this moment” is because we’ve had lots of other ideas, including trips to India, Nepal, and various parts of Europe.

Our plan is not that discrete yet, but it includes flying out of North Carolina, which we’ll be heading towards in December, and then making the long trek (via air) to Bangkok. From there it seems we have many different options. Some of the ones I’m most excited about are: spending a good amount of time in Northern Thailand, in and around Chaing Mai, perhaps even going up into Southern China (Yunnan province). We’re also thinking about as hitting up some of the beaches that are a bit off the beaten path, as well as my personal favorite: Doing a couple meditation courses. There will also be a pretty big amount of flexibility available for doing whatever the hell we decide to do, including checking out other countries (although money definitely will be a limiting factor).

And yes, I’ll be blogging all the way! In fact, I’ve decided to create a separate blog, that both Emily and I will be contributing to, that will be specifically for ruminations, pictures, reflections, stories, planning, etc. associated with this trip. Not sure yet what it will be called, or where it will be located, but look out for that in the coming months.
