After a long long time of wanting to make the leap to digital photography, the chance has finally come! Well, actually I’ve been doing digital photography, but with a small crappy 2MP camera. Don’t diss the crappy camera though, cause it’s what kept the flame alive (that and being jealous of other photo-taking-friends). You know who you are! And today after a long wait wait my new dSLR arrived, the Nikon D50. WooHoo!
Above is a test shot, and soon to come will be many more… The D50 is a modification of the early D70, and is a bit smaller and a bit more affordable. I got it over its close competitor the Rebel XT, not because it’s necessarily a better camera (in fact the Rebel beats out the D50 in many categories) but because it feels better in my hands. The Rebel is really small, and just feels awkward in my hands. One photography sales dude I spoke to thought that it was designed more for a woman’s hand. Emily agreed when she picked it up. Anyway, I decided that if it didn’t feel good in my hands, then I wouldn’t use it as much, and that would be a damn shame. So, I went with that as my deciding factor.
I’m uber-excited to have the chance to step up my photo experimentation. I love SLR cameras, and even took two photography classes at Naropa that focused on film SLR photography. But digital is where it’s at. Anyway who is into tech and loves photography knows the obvious benefits of going digital. It costs less to take more photos, you can edit them more easily, and use awesome photo sharing tools to proliferate the visual-goodness.
Let me sum it up this way: dSLR + Vin-Diesel = Digital Diesel
