Alright, moving right along with this fun-goal-follow-up here is where I’m at with my third goal, Improvement of Overall Health:
This goal, as I mentioned when I first created it, is pretty broad. In order to narrow it down I made some specific commitments, which were the following:
* Gradually eliminate junk foods (high glycemic index/load foods, refined sugars, fried foods, transfats, etc.) through moderation
* Reduce body fat to %12 or under (currently I’m not sure what my body fat is. Will need to measure that).
* Build up to a 4 day/week weight training program (currently going 2-3 times each week).
* 4 day/week aerobic activity (either walking or biking for at least 30 mins)
* “Aggressive supplementation” – Emily and I have recently starting taking some high doses of multivitamins, and will likely be adding some other supplements in the course of this year.
Thus far I’m doing pretty well with this commitment. I’ve lost about 13 pounds since the beginning of the year, much of it probably fat. As of last month, before I began Project Diesel (my weight training program) I had a bodyfat percentage of %14. Roughly %2 above my year long goal, so I’d so I’m in “good shape” here.
I am currently lifting weights 4x/week and have been for the past 6 weeks. So far so good on that one. I haven’t been doing 4 days/week of aerobic exercise (more like 1-2). But actually, I’m wondering if my original goal was a little excessive. My goal now would be 3x/week of both strength training and aerobic. Hey, I’m not trying to become a world-class athlete, just in decent enough shape to be a vessel for my bodhisattvic work (which mostly amounts to harassing my wife and friends these days).
In terms of “aggressive supplementation” I’m really not taking any supplements right now. However, my cool-ass Mom dumped 5-months worth of Usana vitamins on me, so I will soon make an effort to start taking those daily. Thanks Mom!
All together I feel like things are going fairly well with this goal. Fortunately I still have 5 months to meet my goals, and look forward to feeling healthier, stronger, and more vibrant!!! (Notice that when someone gets healthier they start using lots of CAPS and lots of !!!!!’s). What’s up with that?
