Meditation by Design : Contemplative Technologies for a Digital Generation
Meditation By Design (MBD) is a unique project at the meeting point of tech culture, meditation and design. Our generation, which has grown up digital, is increasingly interested in exploring meditation and its potential for mental and human development. MBD believes that for this potential to be fully realized, meditation must be taught and practiced in ways that are people-centered and fully appropriate to the digital, urban and engaged nature of our 21st century lives. It does this primarily through the design and creation of cutting edge mobile applications. I am a co-founder, along with Rohan Gunatillake, of Meditation by Design.
Buddhist Geeks : Discover the Emerging Faces of Buddhism
Buddhist Geeks is an online Buddhist media company that launched in 2006. It’s chief aim is to explore the intersection between Buddhism, global technology, and emerging global culture. Buddhist Geeks includes a weekly audio podcast—the #2 Buddhist podcast in the world with over 90,000 downloads of the show each month— and an annual conference that has been featured on the pages of Wired UK, Fast Company, and the Los Angeles Times. I am the Chief Geek and co-founder of Buddhist Geeks.
Life Retreat : Awakening is a Team Sport
Life Retreat is a meditation project aimed at helping optimize people’s meditation practice in a way that’s more consonant with modern life. Think of it as being on a meditation team with a personal coach–awakening as a team sport. I am a core teacher of the Life Retreat and helped start it along with my wife, Emily Horn.
